How do you torture a musician? Answer: Play a song slightly off-key. This joke illustrates how important accurate pitch is to a musician. What bothers you the most? If you value honesty, you probably cannot tolerate the blatant lies used to avoid trouble. If you value truth, you cannot endure long-winded ramblings that cover up ignorance. What if, however, someone constantly uses both tactics to cover up his faults, boasts about his cleverness, and belittles those who don't use such tactics? Dealing with him must be the ultimate torture.
The Worst
There might be something worse says, one news anchor: the applause of an audience who does not recognize the ignorance behind the cunning cover-ups.
This foolishness of failure to detect the wrong, but encouraging rather than reprimanding, is the worst, laments Lawrence O'Donnell of MSNBC: NY's Stupidest Rich People Clapped after Trump Said “Child Care is Child Care."
Way to Right a Wrong
When a young puppy chews up the couch, you yell and scold her. Then she won't do it again. If you praise her instead, she will be encouraged and continue to do wrong. The same applies to bad politicians unless the media criticize them and people vote them out of office. We need to learn from good businesses that use consumer complaints to fix their problems.
2024 Republican Party Presidential Candidate
He is a man who has built businesses on lies and fraud for eight decades. He has lived his entire life strictly for himself, willing to cheat and commit crimes to get ahead.
In 2016, he came out of nowhere to run for president and easily won the Republican nomination. A political party that claims to pursue conservative and Christian values has nominated a man with a history of sexual assault and business fraud, turning a blind eye to his past misdeeds and present glaring flaws because it served their interests. He might have been acceptable to a desperate party that had lost power to the Democrats and also the first time in history a 'black' president for eight years. But he couldn't pass the general public's scrutiny, or so it was thought. However, he was elected the president despite receiving fewer votes overall than his opponent, thanks to a loophole in America's indirect electoral system called the Electoral College.
Mistakes and Missteps as President
Four years in office, he failed to keep his absurd campaign promises (like making Mexico pay for a border wall), made a series of domestic and foreign policy missteps that made him a laughingstock around the world, and most of all, his ignorant and reckless handling of the pandemic plunged the country into crisis, with many more people dying than necessary. He lost his reelection bid in a landslide to a Democratic candidate who was four years older than him and whom he derided as a "sleepy old man."
Riots, Indictments, and a Maneuver
However, instead of conceding defeat and peacefully handing over power, he incited an ignorant and violent mob with the lie that the Democrats rigged the election (a lie that has been proven false by dozens of investigations and lawsuits and that even he has admitted on several occasions), leaving many dead and injured. Eventually, when he was indicted for conspiracy to riot, election interference, and leaking national secrets and convicted and awaiting sentencing for his past crimes of sexual assault and fraudulent embezzlement, he ran for president again (did he see it as the only way to avoid prison?).
Foolish Cheers
Anyone in their right mind would have told him: 'Go away and face the consequences!" But instead, 45% of the American people are cheering him on. They let him misuse donated political funds for trial expenses, and they buy the goods he sells out of his conviction. Members of Congress become his pawns, and his appointed Supreme Court judges interfere with the rulings of lower courts by issuing bizarre rulings that any misdeed committed while he was president is immune.
No wonder he has been nicknamed 'Teflon Don' and is on the rise as a presidential candidate. It's like the original “Teflon Don,” John Gotti, the Mafia boss who escaped criminal punishment for all sorts of his crimes. The failure to teach the original “Teflon Don” a lesson and punish him for his misdeeds back then has allowed the fake “Teflon Don” to take over.
Closing Thoughts
Those who failed to teach and correct the bad and the fools who cheered and encouraged the bad are about to lead our country into another crisis with a presidential election. With 45% of the country standing mindless and unable to learn from their mistakes, it seems that the only way to force the US to stop making the same mistakes over and over again is to limit the presidency to a one-term system like South Korea. Does it?
